This term the grade 3/4s went on camp to Cave
Hill Creek for two nights. We got there by bus, it was two hour drive so we
stopped at a park for morning tea. When we got to camp, we got introduced to
Tim and then unpacked our bags.
Then we started our activities at 3pm. We had
six activities and these were archery, rock climbing/abseiling, low ropes,
mountain bikes, bush cooking and hut building. The food we had was
delicious. For dinner we had lasagne and chicken with vegetables. At each meal,
one group had to set up and clean the table.
Even though we were away from our families, camp
was exciting and so much fun. And we are so looking forward to going on camp
again next year.
In the first half of term two, the grade 3/4s had ten
RMIT students come in to visit. RMIT is a university, which teaches people how
to be science teachers. They visited us to teach us about solids and liquids.
There were three groups; we all did the same activities but at different times.
They told us all about molecules and atoms, which are in literally everything. The molecules move fast if it’s hot and if
it’s cold they move slower and also come closer to each other.
The first activity was melting ice and you had to
think of a fast way to melt the ice in a bag. The second activity was to melt
chocolate in a microwave. You had to guess if a big block of chocolate or
broken pieces of chocolate would melt faster. The last activity was melting ice
cream. You had to guess if the chopped-up ice cream melted faster than a scoop
of ice cream. We really liked learning about solids and liquids and really hope
that the RMIT students come back again next year.
Camp was super fun. I had a great time there.
